I really enjoyed this story! The new setting, the reintroduction of familiar characters (Wellard!), and Hornblower being Hornblower. You clearly put a lot of research into this but you also refrained from a Master and Commander type info dump, which I appreciate ;). I really got a sense of the atmosphere, with the busyness and excitement and the fresh new paint.
I did *not* expect Bush to be the noncompliant passenger! That was an interesting surprise. I enjoyed his awkward first meeting with Hornblower, and the description of how he could "look past the uniform to the man who wore it." I look forward to hearing more about his job in telecommunications and how that ties into the plot. And I'm hoping he'll get to know Hornblower well enough to, y'know, make sparks fly! (I'm sorry, I'm sorry.)
