Haha, yes it's true there's always someone else with a more ridiculous name. And as for the whole 'evoking the age of sail in modern day' outside of the direct analogues like the armed forces something like firefighting would be a good equivalent - the structure and the camaraderie and the potential tragedy are all similar in both instances. I quite enjoy this particular AU as I have fire training myself (albeit very limited and strictly for shipboard fires) and I find firefighting in general quite fascinating, so this appeals to my niche interest :)
